Greening your Festival experience

I just got inspired today to remind myself and others that even beyond your household you can make a positive impact on the Environment you are in by picking up trash, recycling, and NOT buying one time use plastic water bottles!

At festivals around the country there are numerous "teams" of Volunteers and people joining forces to make the Festival experience even more awesome by getting people to recycle while at a show or even compost.

Composting at a large event like Bonnaroo, Rothbury, Harmony or even Wakarusa can be so easy! There are tons of vegetables and paper going into the trash, why not put them in a single bin and by the end of the weekend you will have the makings of really good compost. There are enough people throwing away things like coffee grounds, paper, apple cores, banana peels, etc,  that I am really glad that people were visionarys to make this happen! I saw compost bins at a few different events last Summer and this year it's going to be amazing once again!

Please bring your own water bottles,(if they allow you to bring un-sealed water bottles in). This is really lame if you can't do this! Coachella and many others wont let you in with Nalgene bottles or other un-sealed bottles.

There are recycling bins all over any given events grounds, please use them!

Take part in the composting program, ask questions if you don't know what goes into a compost bin! If you eat an apple, throw it in! No plastics, metals, NOTHING that isn't from the Earth!

Help on the Festival grounds by picking up litter. Recycle things that can be and throw the rest(boohoo) away!

Use your own utensils, bring forks, knives, cups, etc. Or try to use utensils made out of compostable or recycled material. Many places offer this now. Fairy Worlds offers this, so does, Harmony Festival, Earthdance and Rothbury!

Support local, small businesses that make recycled, re-used crafts. They are creative and one of a kind!

Support places that also are like-minded, and "green". Some small businesses donate their time, money or energy to this cause!

Use your imagination! Being green and more resonsible is easy, we all know by now what is good and bad for our Mother, just use your judgement!

Try to car pool to and from a Festival!

Ride a bike while your there, rather than jumping on a golf cart....

Love your neighbors!

Love yourself!

Love your immediate environment! (wherever you are at the time, make that the most wonderful place to be!)

Teach others! if someone doesn't know what to do with their recycling or their compost help them out!

I truly hope that recycling and trying to re-use things and even being mindful of our energy usage becomes more popular with the Festival circuit. There are so many amazing people that can take these ideas elsewhere in the world!

I love the Festivals that I go to, and I want them to stay around for a long time!  We can all do our part by trying these little things that become HUGE things when we all do them together!

Happy Festival travels!
